Image © Michael Burke 2007
13th August 2007: This young Sparrowhawk was found and photographed by Michael Burke in his rural garden on the shore of Lough Rynn, near Mohill, Co. Leitrim, and appeared reluctant to move.  As the photo shows, it was in excellent condition, and Michael reports that it flew off normally after about five minutes.  The behaviour described may have been an example of the "freeze" reaction that young wild birds often adopt when they feel threatened.
