The bird reported as a White-rumped Sandpiper earlier this month has been reidentified as a Curlew Sandpiper.

A very large female Sparrowhawk was seen feeding on a Redshank.

21st October 2004: Large female Sparrowhawk feeding on a recently deceased Redshank which it had just caught on the margin of the pond in the Goose Field, at Ballygilgan Nature Reserve, Lissadell.

All four Brent Geese were ringed in Iceland and not, as stated yesterday, partly in Strangford Lough.

This represents a relatively high count as normally only between 10 to 15 birds are present.

The Brent Goose flock now contains four ringed birds, all of which were ringed in either Iceland or Strangford Lough.  The Brent Goose mentioned on 13.10 was found to have been ringed in Iceland and this is apparently its first sighting outside  of that country.

The Barnacle Geese have arrived back at Lissadell! As expected, the seed field opposite the main goose field has again  attracted large numbers of finches this autumn.

The Little Egret is most likely the same bird that was present in August and September. Remarkable numbers of Blacktailed Godwits are still present at this site!

Two of these Brent Geese were found to be ringed. Interestingly, the rings on one Brent indicate that it was not part  of the Icelandic or Strangford Lough ringing studies.

This is a remarkable assortement of geese! Most likely migrants from Iceland, they were seen at Lake 1.
