Sligo Bay
Corncrake heard calling on Oyster Island last night from Rosses Point at around 1 am, despite wind and rain, after a few days of apparent inactivity (C. Davis).
26th June 2007
Glencar,
Co. Sligo
A Red-legged Partridge was seen along the edge of the main Sligo-Enniskillen Road, just inside the Leitrim border in the early morning (M. Bell).  It seems likely that this exotic bird has escaped from captivity, or is part of a local gun club's rearing & release programme.  Any further sightings or information would be welcomed.
25th June 2007
Mullaghmore
In strong northerly winds, at least 70 Gannets could be seen from the beach area with many of them sitting on the water near the beach and others diving for fish.  From the headland, two Arctic Skuas and a Manx Shearwater were seen close to the shore (M. Bell)

Corncrake heard calling on Oyster Island tonight, after a few days of apparent inactivity (C. 10th June 2007
Aughris Head
A very successful Birdwatch Sligo outing to Aughris Head produced a number of interesting sightings, in addition to the spectacular views of galleries of breeding seabirds on the cliffs that are guaranteed if you visit Aughris in early summer.   Among the highlights were 2-3 Tree Sparrows seen in the old village, including one carrying food, further evidence that the species is still breeding at this site.   A Great Skua was watched from the cliffs as it chased and harrassed gulls close in-shore, until the tables were turned and it was mobbed by the gulls and forced to retreat.  Finally, an adult Iceland Gull was seen on the rocks at the base of the cliffs. (M. Bell)

Half-Moon Bay,
Hazelwood
An unidentified warbler was heard which was very loud and incorporated a lot of variations and mimicry in its repertoire (L. Benson).  The observer was familiar with Willow, Sedge, Garden and Wood Warblers, and considered that this bird was not any of these species.  Worth checking if you are in the area.  The bird was heard about 5 minutes walk from the car park, along the path to the right.
3rd June 2007 Skreen One Common Buzzard seen, hunting rabbits.  Given the distance, and the short time interval between the two sightings, this could not be one of the Beltra birds (S. Feeney)
3rd June 2007 Beltra Two Common Buzzards seen in same area where a single bird was sighted on the 1st of June (S. Feeney)

1st June 2007: The Garden Warbler typically sings from cover, but this one has been giving reasonably good views as it sings from an Ash tree that is not yet in full leaf.
