7th January 2007:  This Woodcock was mist-netted and ringed near Tubbercurry.  Ireland's small breeding population of Woodcock is supplemented in winter by an influx of continental birds, moving south and west from Scandinavia and northern Europe. The number of continental migrants varies from year to year depending mainly on weather.   Because this species is legally hunted throughout Europe, there is a relatively high chance of this ring being recovered, thus shedding further light on the origins of Sligo's wintering Woodcock.
