24th August 2005:  Sabine's Gulls rarely come close inshore, except in favourable weather conditions during their autumn passage.  These superb photos are actually of a bird photographed by Will Woodrow off Kilcummin head in Mayo, which is across Killala Bay from Enniscrone.

A metal-ringed  Common Gull, originally ringed as a nestling at a breeding colony on Loch Tarff in the Scottish Highlands, has returned to  Sligo Harbour for the third consecutive autumn. This bird's ring, ET 47509, was read using a telescope

31st August 2005:  Little Gulls are quite rare on the west coast.  The top photo provides an excellent comparison with the more common and superficially similar Black-headed Gull
